Shepherds Purse

the home of traditional handmade Yorkshire cheeses

Yorkshire fells

Here at Shepherds Purse we take great pride in producing the finest, traditional Yorkshire cheeses by hand, using techniques that have been passed down over generations.

Our cheeses are made from natural ingredients and our milk comes from local farmers whose livestock graze the pastures around our farm (apart from Buffalo Blue, which we need to get from further afield).

Award winning cheeses

Shepherds Purse started out as an idea by Judy Bell in the 1980s working on her kitchen table. The company was launched at the Great Yorkshire Show in 1989 and won 1st prize that year at the Nantwich International Cheese Awards.

Since then the word about our fine Yorkshire cheeses has spread, we have a shelf full of awards from top national and international shows and the whole family is involved with the business.

One thing hasn't changed though, and that's our passion for making really delicious cheese – something that seems to run in the family.
