Shepherds Purse creates exclusive new cheese for the Slug and Lettuce

Shepherds Purse, Yorkshire’s finest cheesemaker, has joined forces with the Slug and Lettuce premium bar brand, to create a new cheese exclusively for the wine bar menu.  Working with the bar chain’s menu development team, a new soft cow’s milk cheese with Italian herbs and garlic has been produced and will be included on the new autumn/winter menu this month in a warming winter rustic bake with red peppers, sun blushed tomatoes and rustic bread.

Now owned by the Laurel Pub Company, which operates more than 400 high street pubs and bars throughout Britain, the Slug and Lettuce has introduced the new cheese in all 46 bars up and down the country.  Shepherds Purse has been awarded the contract to supply the new cheese in 425 gramme half moons, which follows the success of its recent collaboration to provide its award-winning Yorkshire Blue for a selection of dishes.

Yorkshire Blue has proved to be a great success with our diners, and so we approached Shepherds Purse to work with us on creating our very own cheese.  We’re very excited about the results and are eager to see the reaction from our customers when they try out the new cheese and specially created winter dish.'

Commenting on the win, John Kerwin, director at Shepherds Purse cheeses said: 'We worked with the Slug and Lettuce for six months to create the new cheese and are delighted with the finished result.  Our brief was to create a cheese that was different, fresh tasting and easy to cook with.  We hope customers enjoy the wonderful delicate texture of the cheese.'
