Mrs Bell's Salad Cheese
In response to the coronavirus crisis we've created Fettle, now called Mrs Bell's Salad Cheese, so that we could help save our sheep milk producers. Mrs Bell's Salad Cheese is a British salad-style cheese made by Shepherds Purse cheeses, it was launched on May 4th 2020 and then renamed on July 12th 2022 after a huge effort by our whole team and our suppliers.

Mrs Bell's Salad Cheese is our homage to Mum and her passion, from the beginning, to create quality, artisan dairy alternatives for people allergic to cow's milk.Formerly known as Yorkshire Fettle, and before that, when it was first launched in 1989 it was called Yorkshire Feta.
"Feta" was awarded a Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) by the European Commission in 2002, a decision which was unsuccessfully challenged by Denmark and Germany, and in 2008 we were forced to rename the cheese Yorkshire Fettle. Yorkshire Fettle went on to win international cheese awards and has been stocked in Morrisons, Tesco, Sainsburys and Waitrose and served in restaurants across the UK.
Due to the coronavirus crisis our sheep milk farmers were under threat. Early in the crisis our sheep milk farmer told us they only had two out of 22 customers left and we were one of the two that continued. They had tankers full of amazing milk with nowhere for it to go. So we developed a new format to enable us to take more milk.
It's the same delicious 100% northern sheep's milk salad-style cheese. It's incredible to cook with or to enjoy by itself. And by buying it, you are helping a whole industry survive.
It was launched on May 4th 2020 as Fettle, now we call it Mrs Bell's Salad Cheese!
