  • Strong, steely and sweet, in other words, Northern! 

    A powerhouse blue cheese with serious credentials. Deliciously creamy and luxuriously more-ish, this cheese is is a strong arm to success.

    Northern Blue was launched in 2019 as the more powerful and more mature brother to Yorkshire Blue. Aged for a minimum of 10 weeks, we use a stronger strain of Penicillium Roquefort to achieve a more robust blue flavour.

    We took the launch batch to Bergamo in Italy to the World Cheese Awards and lo and behold we came back with a Silver medal! Northern Blue is recognisable as a Shepherds Purse signature blue cheese and its extra strength will also please those who like a bit more bite to their blue.

Beautifully balanced

I can’t recommend this cheese enough. Initially very buttery, then creamy with a strong blue cheese flavour coming through. I would recommend buying a larger one than you would normally buy as it lasts for a long time, and I’ve found the flavour changes over time which is a cool thing to experience. The last thing I’ll say is that this has been enjoyed by everyone in our house - even those who normally aren’t keen on blue cheese.

So Tasty Cheese

We met the Shepherds Purse team at the Great Yorkshire Show. We had had the cheese before and enjoyed the chat. Late summer, we were visiting my sister in Hampshire and decided to have Yorkshire Blue and Harrogate Blue delivered. Neither of them disappointed.
