October Cheese of the Month: Bluemin White
Think soft, creamy and Brie-like… but with a little bit of blue-cheese magic.
As autumn settles in, our Bluemin Whites are the perfect addition to a seasonal cheeseboard. Rich, creamy and wonderfully moreish, these delicious wheels are a little different from the more traditional blues in our range.
A blue cheese with a difference
Handcrafted here on our family farm in North Yorkshire, Bluemin White is a soft, mould-ripened cheese with a beautiful velvety blue rind and a rich, unctuous centre.
Developed in 2010 by our Joint Managing Director, Katie Matten, they were the first cheeses Katie created after following in the footsteps of her mum and Shepherds Purse founder, Judy.
Katie wanted to create something slightly different to our traditional blues. Still creamy, mild and approachable, but super versatile, something that could be enjoyed on a cheeseboard as well as used in a variety of ways in the kitchen too… enter Bluemin White!

Once each little truckle has been made using cow's milk from local herds, our cheesemakers hand-salt them individually before leaving them to mature for around five weeks.
Unlike a traditional blue cheese, Bluemin White isn't spiked to create blue veins through the centre. Instead, they’re left to gently mature in our ripening rooms from the outside in. It’s during this time that the velvety blue rind develops and gradually works its way inwards, creating their wonderfully soft, silky texture.
Award-winning flavour
Bluemin White has been collecting awards since it first appeared on cheeseboards over 15 years ago. This summer has been particularly special, as it was awarded a coveted 3 Stars at the 2026 Great Taste Awards… for a second time (!) after first receiving this very special accolade back in 2013.
With more than 15,000 products judged this year and just 2% receiving the coveted three-star accolade, it's a result we're incredibly proud of!
Other recent successes have included Gold at the British & Irish Cheese Awards in 2025 and Champion Speciality Cheese at the Great Yorkshire Show in 2023.
From cheeseboard to oven
To enjoy our Bluemins at their best, we recommend taking them out of the fridge around an hour before you serve them. This allows them to come up to room temperature and, as they gently warm, the centre becomes wonderfully soft and indulgent.
We love them served simply with water biscuits, chutney or something fruity. Try a drizzle of local blossom honey and walnuts, or fresh figs and a glass of sparkling wine.
If you fancy something a little more indulgent however, we can really recommend baking your Bluemin! Just like a Brie or Camembert, a whole Bluemin White can be popped in the oven and gently warmed until gloriously gooey. Once the middle is molten, dive in with crackers and crusty bread. Trust us, it’s delicious!

In fact, we love baking them so much that we’ve designed and made our very own bespoke ceramic dishes to allow you to do just that, perfectly at home! We worked with a talented local ceramicist to create a limited run of them, and they’re available to buy online now. You can find out more about them here.
